Why I do not write for a while ...

In fact, I have recently read a number of good books worth reviews. But as it sometimes happens, I am in a period of some reluctance to the Web and electronic communication...

That was perhaps caused by an unexpected death of my friend Jan Bereza OSB (A Benedictine Monk) who passed away almost this hour last week ...

Here is Jan's:

For my dear readers, I have a stock pile of books read that include:
Jehoshua Ozjasz Thon's Sermons (in my mother's tongue)
Yoram Kaniuk'sCommander of the Exodus”
Carlos Ruiz Zafón  first novel „The Prince of Mist”
John Ratey's „Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain”
Michael M. Lewis's „The New New Thing”

My current reading is Winston Churchil's „The Second World War: Milestones to Disaster”

  1. Mirek, I'm so sorry for the loss of your good friend. It is good to take the time you need away from the internet world. I will be glad to read your thoughts when you are ready to come back here.

Because of your earlier review, I recognize Zafon. I'm eager to learn about the others...

  2. As Jan was very electronic and he looks at us via heavenly net, I probably be shorter off than before :-)

Jan was also a man of good and deep humor, hence the tone of this comment.

Thank you Diane, Jan was very important to me for many reasons this blog is too short to type them in...

  3. Sorry for your loss, Mirek. Sometimes it feels that good people are first to go. But we still have their memory and thoughts that live...

I recently read a good book Sonata for Miriam by Linda Olsson - one of the places in it is Poland (Kracov) it is concerning about holocaust too.It was nominated for one of the candidates for Impac Dublin prize 2009.

I,d be interested to hear about brain and exercise as well as Zafon and Churchill...

    hope you all the best

  4. Thanks Marilluusia !

Yes, Jan's memories and thoughts are still alive. I'm just completing the translation of 5th of his Meditations. I will send you the link when done.

Thanks for the pointer to "Sonata for Miriam". Sounds interesting! As the music does (I just listen to it)
